There is no future without a past

The value of a brand is shaped by four main factors: uniqueness, recognition, appreciation. And it also is essential that the quality proves to be absolutely top-class and reliable over a long period of time. The history and longevity of a brand, especially in these days of increasingly short half lives, is becoming increasingly important. So, the history and tradition of KWC is a big asset.

Since 1874, the company, as a premium manufacturer of private kitchen and bathroom fittings, has stood for inventiveness, an affinity for design, and supreme Swiss craftsmanship. Already in 1911, K+W, as it was then called, supplied the taps for the legendary Negresco luxury hotel in Nice. The Grand Hotel Ritz in Paris soon followed.

From the very beginning, the company's products were the epitome of top-class quality and maximum functionality. And then there were also the new, revolutionary designs, characterised by fascinating beauty. Even the claim of innovating with unique technical solutions, is a significant part of the KWC company philosophy. Examples of this include the first single hole kitchen tap with pull-out spray (1957) to the Neoperl aerator (1959) and on to the award-winning taps with innovative electronic control (2013/2021) – the successful journey of KWC to become the market-leading tap manufacturer in Switzerland.

Experience that continues to evolve

For more than 150 years, KWC has been exploring how water can be used with greater comfort and precision in everyday life. This experience has shaped an aspiration that continues to guide our work today: to view design, technology, materials and function not as separate elements, but as parts of a whole.

A faucet should feel intuitive to use, blend harmoniously into its surroundings and meet the demands of everyday life. To achieve this, we combine long-standing expertise with new ideas and continuously develop our products. Experience in engineering and manufacturing plays just as important a role as insights from design, material development and practical application.

The result is more than the sum of individual functions. It is a range of solutions for bathrooms, kitchens and professional applications in which form and function work together with purpose. We are guided not only by what is technically possible. What matters is the tangible value a solution can offer in everyday life. This principle has shaped KWC for generations and provides the foundation for refining what has proven its worth while creating something new.

Technology that makes everyday life easier

Good technology does not show its strength by taking centre stage. Its strength lies in how naturally and intuitively it can be used. That is why we develop functions designed to make the use of water comfortable, intuitive and precise.

Electronic controls, for example, make it possible to save personal settings and adjust water flow or temperature as required. Other solutions support recurring routines or combine familiar operating concepts with new control options. At the heart of these developments is always the question of how technology can provide tangible benefits.

This approach has shaped KWC for many decades. From the development of the pull-out spray and the reinterpretation of the spring hose to today’s electronic control concepts, innovation is never an end in itself. It responds to everyday requirements and translates them into functions that are designed to feel as natural as possible to use.

The result is progress that does not need to be understood before it can be used: precise control, thoughtful functionality and an operating experience in which technology and user experience are closely connected.

New ideas with a clear purpose

Innovation has long been part of KWC’s history. For us, however, it does not begin with the question of what could be new, but with what could be done better. People’s needs change, as do spaces, habits and technological possibilities. Our task is to understand these developments and turn them into solutions for everyday life.

One example is the pull-out spray, which KWC developed as early as the 1950s. It was followed by further technical and design solutions, from new hose concepts to electronic controls. Over the years, numerous developments have also been protected by patents.

What matters to us is not innovation for its own sake. A new function needs to prove its value in everyday use and work meaningfully with both design and operation. That is why we consider technology, design and user experience together from the very beginning.

This is how we understand progress: as the continuous development of products and functions with a clear purpose. Experience gives rise to new ideas, and new ideas become solutions that can make the use of water more comfortable and versatile.

Precision in form and function

Clarity of form and attention to detail have always been part of KWC’s design signature. Behind this lies an understanding of design in which aesthetics and function do not evolve independently of one another. A form should not only look good. It should also prove itself in everyday use.

Achieving this requires a range of expertise: a strong sense of design, technical knowledge, experience with materials and a thorough understanding of manufacturing. Only when these disciplines come together can products emerge in which proportions, surfaces, functions and operation are carefully coordinated.

This combination of design expertise and craftsmanship has a long tradition at KWC. It is reflected in distinctive forms as well as in details that often reveal themselves only on closer inspection. Throughout the process, people remain the starting point of our thinking: How does a faucet feel? How is it operated? How does it fit into a space?

This is what Swiss craftsmanship means to us: not looking back, but continually translating expertise, experience and precision into a contemporary form.

Quality begins in the details

The appearance and character of a faucet are largely determined by the material and the way it is processed. For us, quality therefore begins long before the finished product is put to use: with the selection of suitable materials, their processing and the careful coordination of surface, form and function.

KWC works with materials including brass and stainless steel. Depending on the product and the desired appearance, different surface-finishing processes are used. Liquid coating, powder coating and PVD each open up different design possibilities while placing their own demands on the manufacturing process.

Every detail matters. Surfaces should complement the form of the faucet, materials should be allowed to reveal their individual character and the various components should come together to create a coherent overall appearance. Precision manufacturing and careful workmanship are therefore essential elements of our product development.

For us, material is more than a technical choice. It influences how a product looks, how it feels and how it is perceived within a space. The considered selection and processing of materials thus become a visible part of KWC’s design language.
